Accute memory loss is the memory loss associated with the side-effects of an accident, disease, or epilepsy. This may be from trauma or a physical injury to the brain. There have been instances where the parts of the brain that control memory receive damage, permanently impairing that person's memory. Accute memory loss is usually resultant of a sudden incident.

The extent of accute memory loss can be as small as just the memory of the accident and as severe as the memory of the past year. Also, the events which are affect by accute memory loss do not have to be related and can be from anytime within the person's life. Even after treatment, patients aren't guaranteed that the memory will ever return.

There have been many successful treatments of accute memory loss with patients regaining the memory they once lost. But this isn't always the case and although it may be painful, it is something that must be accepted. Patients suffering from accute memory loss have the hardest time dealing with their condition because it is so sudden. When you develop memory loss over a long period of time, you can learn to cope with it, find ways to improve it, and make preparations to help you make up for your memory deficiency. However, with accute memory loss, the patient isn't given time for this process and so makes it harder to cope with the problem.

If you know someone experiencing accute memory loss, the best thing to do is to help and support them by comforting them and taking part in the treatment process. Although it may be frustrating, you have to remember that the patient is suffering the most.
